The PERNA project comes from the collaboration of Koala Electronics with the Universities of Udine and Trieste and Micad srl. The topic developed is electric propulsion for vessels, with focus in small boats, especially for sailing. The aim of the project is to propose an alternative solution to combustion engines for the propulsion of medium and small boats.
The proposal consists in a propeller without hub, with electric motor, conversion electronics and integrated control, to be placed within the propeller hull body. The synergy between the design of an electrical machine in a peculiar configuration (multi-three-phase), which allows to obtain advantages from the point of view of fault tolerance, together with an optimal distribution of the control and power supply systems of the motor.
Koala Electronics, as supplier for the electronic part, has developed the conversion and distributed control system for the integrated propeller motor, at the heart of the propulsion system.
